Liriomyza bryoniae (Diptera: Agromyzidae): is it present in the Philippines?
Issue Date
10-2008
Abstract
The dipterous leaf miners recorded in the Philippines are Chromatomyia horticola Agromyza parviconis, Liriomyza chinensis, L. huidobrensis L. sativae, L. brassicae and L. trifolii. The Liriomyz sp. just recently arrived in the Philippines either through the importation of flowers and vegetables or the sneaking in of plant materials by Filipino travelers and balikbayans. L. trifolii caused havoc to the onion industry in the 1990's up to the early 2000's. We re-examined our L. trifolii collections at the University of Putra Malaysia in February-March 2007 and found L. bryoniae included. The genitalia dissections are hereby presented together with the diagnostic character of the species. Additional samples are being collected in the field to validate our findings.
