Butterflies of Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija

Issue Date

10-2008

Abstract

A census was conducted on the butterflies of Gabaldon from 2002 to 2003 particularly those found at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology campus at Poblacion, Gabaldon and at the slope of the mountain that looms over the campus. It was done after the regular data collection on the onion techno-demo field to optimize use of research time and efforts in the area. Gathering of inventory data through sweep net and actual counts aimed at documenting the butterfly fauna of Gabaldon and contributing to the pool of local information on the diversity of flora and fauna in the locality. A total of 7 families, 30 genera, and 31 species of butterflies were observed. The plan is to continue the informal surveys in the vicinity of Gabaldon at every available opportunity. More species are expected to be recorded in the future due to the forested mountains near the campus. The natural enemies and host flora will also be included in the study.
