Trend in insecticide usage in the Philippines: a 10 year study
Issue Date
10-2008
Abstract
PhilRice survey data from 1996 to 2006, covering 30-33 rice provinces, representing irrigated and rainfed ecosystems, were used in the inventory and analysis of insecticide use in rice. Results were categorized according to product name, active ingredient, chemical group and toxicity category. Magnum and insecticide products containing the active ingredient cypermethrin were popular with the farmers. Wet season and Dry season insecticides did not differ much. New insecticides were being tried out by the farmers in the latter years. In general, farmers use safe insecticides. With the confusion in product names, it is suggested that simpler or more catchy names be used.
