Issue Date
10-2008
Abstract
IPM technologies for the management of insects, diseases and weeds on onion developed by the IPM-Collaborative Research Support Program (IPM CRSP)-PhilRice were promoted in selected sites in the Philippines. These technologies aimed to reduce losses due to pests and reduce crop protection costs. The integration of these pest management technologies in onion production system resulted in reduction of insecticide application by 60%, fungicide application by 67%, and herbicide application by 3.5% and the total pest management cost by 26%. Yield was increased by 15% and net income by 29%. The technologies are being institutionalized and transferred to the farmers and benefit the vegetable industry in the Philippines.
