Use of plastic bag as spawn-collecting medium for the golden apple snail, pomacea canaliculata (gastropoda: ampullariidae)
Issue Date
10-2003
Abstract
Different spawn-collecting media were evaluated in the laboratory. Plastic bag placed before filling the plastic mini-aquarium with water was the best spawn-collecting medium. Collection was faster and percent hatchability was higher (78-96%) compared with the other spawn collecting media such as old newspapers and bamboo sticks. Moreover, the plastic bag was recyclable compared with the other collecting media evaluated.
