Mango seed weevil, Sternochetus Mangiferae (FABR.): distribution in the Southeast Asian Region
Issue Date

Abstract
Specimens of mango weevil were borrowed from some Indonesian research centers covering Java, Sumatra and Borneo. Over 2000 specimens, mainly from different parts of Indonesia and Palawan, were examined. All of these turned out to be Sternochetus frigidus (Fabr.). Many of the older records, probably citing the presence of S. mangiferae in the Indonesian and also in the Philippines, are most likely misidentified specimens of S. frigidus. Bainbridge and Fletcher (1917), for example, cited that the mango pulp weevil, S. frigidus (Fabr.) (= Cryptorrhynchus gravis Faust) (Kalshoven, 1981). Mr. Notton of the Natural History Museum in London also initially confirmed specimens of S. mangiferae from Burma and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
