Two levels of lime in combination with urea for straw conservation / treatment
Issue Date

Abstract
The effect of treating rice straw with two levels (3% and 5%) of lime in combination with 2% urea and stored for 30, 50 and 70 days were studied in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design with three replications.
The treated materials turned from greenish and yellowish to brown with shades of green and yellow with longer storage periods. Ammonia odor became intense with storage. While tissues remained firm and soft with some undissolved lime, no mold growth was observed. These characteristics were the same for both chemical combinations. Treated rice straw stored for at least 50 days had significantly higher pH than straw stored at 30 days. Organic matter content decreased (P
