A cladistic analysis of the bee tribe allodapini (hymenoptera: apidae: xylocopinae)

Abstract
The allodapine bees provide a model system to study the evolution of social behaviour and parasitism because they show a range of social behaviour from solitary to primitively eusocial. They also include several socially parasitic species hypothesised to evolve from perspective allows identification of lineage-specific pathways for various traits, but this requires a robust phylogeny. A cladistic analysis of the genera of the tribe Allodapini is done and contrasted with the previous phylogenetic hypothesis. There are fifteen genera, divided into four major groups. The phylogenetic system proposed is: the Halterapis group (Halterapis + Compsomelissa) is the sister group of the fourteen other allodapine genera; the Exoneira group (Macrogalea + (Exoneuridia + (Exoneurella + (Brevineura + (Exoneura + Inquilina) is the sister group of the Allodapula group )Allodape + (Braunsapis + Effractapis). Nasutapis is synonymized under the genus Braunsapis. Three apparent paraphyletic genera are provisionally maintained, namely: Exoneura, Allodapula and Braunsapis until studies on species-phylogeny are available for re-evaluation of the taxonomic status of these taxa.
