Abstract

Gender issues are still observed in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) Sector. There have been several programs and initiatives that aimed to address challenges related to gender, however, traditional gender norms greatly influence Filipinos. To continuously address these issues, the DOST- PCAARRD funded a two-year project entitled Gender analysis framework and monitoring and evaluation tools in gender-responsive AANR development projects (GAME tools in AANR), with UPLB as the implementing agency. It started in June 2022 and ended in May 2024. The project aimed to promote gender- responsiveness in the AANR sectors by creating a guidebook for the AANR researchers. The guidebook is divided into three modules. The first module is about the fundamentals of GAD relevant to understanding gender issues in AANR; the second module discussed gender analysis tools used to collect and analyze sex and gender-disaggregated data, generate gender-related information and identify gender issues; and the third module is about the GAME Framework and Tools for efficient, effective, and gender-responsive AANR programs and projects. These modules were pilot-tested among the AANR researchers from different government agencies. The use of clear, direct language was highlighted as a key strength, ensuring comprehensibility for budding researchers. The modules received appreciation for its simplicity, clarity, and overall accessibility, catering to individuals with varying levels of familiarity with Gender Analysis Tools. Given these positive results, the project highlights the need for this guidebook to be adopted by different government agencies in planning and implementing their projects.
