Abstract

The paper presents the state of biological resources in Mount Makiling in terms of relevant facts and assessment studies on flora and fauna conducted by UPLB and non-UPLB researchers.

The need for a Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) for the Makiling Forest Reserve (MFR) and the steps in operationalizing a BMS are explained.

Main focus of the paper is the set of DAIS field methods namely: Field Diary Method Photo Documentation Method, Transect Walk Method and Focus Group Discussion Method The personnel and equipment needed. frequency, data storage and management and some useful tips for each of the four methods are discussed.

Perceived problems and constraints in the implementation of a BMS for Mount Makiling and responses of MCME, ARCBC and CFNR faculty to BMS during the open forum are also presented
