Abstract

The Magahis Multipurpose Cooperative in Magahis, Tuy, Batangas [Philippines] is keen on acquiring a heavy duty tractor that could help them increase the productivity of their sugarcane fields and enhance the business of the cooperative through tractor rentals. The cooperative operates on a 150 has of a land with sugarcane as the primary commodity produced. The members of the Cooperative are mostly CLOA holders. The nature of the soil in the area is predominantly clay-loam. However, year of continuous tillage has changed the soil condition making it difficult to cultivate.Soils are reportedly hard to cultivate which necessitates the use of a heavy duty tractor with different support implements to be used in deep cultivation. Improved soil tilth is necessary for increasing crop yield. The DAR has been providing assistance to the e MPC since 1996. The Cooperative has 533 active members. The organization of the Cooperative makes it as good candidate to be a recipient of a common service facility to be used in land preparation. The members of the cooperative are also encouraged to venture into camote/cassava production and other micro or small agri-based enterprises. Other members of the cooperative including those under the leasehold agreement also venture into backyards scale production of vegetables and livestock such as swine and cattle.
