Abstract
Sports greatly impact the present by creating jobs, boosting tourism, and inspiring future athletes. However, managing sports is very hard and taxing. This is where management teams come in; they handle athletes' schedules, competitions, finances, and needs. The sport management in the Philippines, although with trained management staff, is not immune to issues and may occasionally experience challenges because of the lack of external support. This study aimed to examine the support and treatment of the players and their management teams. Knowing sports management at a university seeks to understand the broader sports situation in the Philippines. The general objective of this study is to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the current management of the competing varsity players of the UP Los Banos. This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach. Participants included three members each from the UPLB's Women's Basketball, Volleyball, and Futsal Varsity teams, and one coaching staff member for each team, selected through snowball sampling. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted online or face-to-face; they were given the right to be interviewed through appointment at their chosen time. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to draw conclusions. The data gathered were analyzed and recurring codes and patterns were observed and taken into account. These codes were categorized into five themes. namely: skills through background and experience, skills improvement through training, good relationship with coaching management, consistent training system, and improved performance in games and tournaments. It was concluded that there are so many factors that affect the performance of student-athletes and one of them is the effectiveness of their coaching management in improving their skills inside and outside the court.
