Abstract

The Philippines is considered to be a haven for bees, yet its local beekeepings market fails to stand out in the local economy. The slow development of the Philippine beckeeping industry may be due to the general populace's poor or lacking awareness of bees and beckeeping, and further improvement is necessary. However, there is an Cxtreme lack of local studies on this subject. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and perception of 8th grade students from UP Rural High School, a science and agriculture school, on bees and beckeeping, as well as to determine whether there is a correlation between knowledge and perception. It was done using a validated knowledge questionnaire (r=0.8997) and perception questionnaire (a 0.8296) as the instruments Open-ended questions were also included to validate responses. Appropriate descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and thematic analysis were used to analyze results. The study found that students mostly had a surface level of knowledge regarding bees and beekeeping, and that knowledge and perception has a weak but existent relationship between each other. It is recommended that students be taught more about bees and beekeeping to promote support for the local bee industry and bee conservation.
