Abstract

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the economy and daily life. However, despite being a crucial element of society, the future of agriculture still faces uncertainties regarding its performance and sustainability. This study aims to determine the following: (1) knowledge, attitude, and perception (KAP) of students about agriculture-related jobs; (2) interest of the students regarding agriculture-related jobs; (3) demographic factors that affect the knowledge, attitude, and perception of the students regarding agriculture-related jobs; and (4) correlation between the interest and the KAP of students regarding agriculture-related jobs. A survey using a semi-structured questionnaire was conducted including 44 Class 2024 UPRHS participants. The results show that almost all participants were aware of basic agricultural concepts. Despite this, their attitudes towards agriculture and agriculture-related jobs are more neutral. However, the participants still view them as important to society, associated with scientific and business fields, and providing a low income. Gender had a greater effect on the KAP of participants than their area of residence. Female participants have more knowledge, more positive attitudes, and more diverse perceptions of agricultural concepts and common agriculture-related jobs than male participants. Participants from rural are more knowledgeable in agriculture and agriculture-related jobs. The area of residence was shown to have no effect on attitude, and little to no effect on the perception of participants. Moreover. Knowledge and Attitude factors were shown to have no correlation with interest. On the other hand, the Perception factor affects the interest of participants. The general perception of low income associated with agriculture-related jobs acoounts for the low interest of participants tis recomended to implement more scientific or business approaches in agricultural courses.
