Abstract
The study aimed to determine the approaches and strategies that the R-_-.:ippine Information Agency at Tacloban City employs to disseminate frimation about development-oriented programs and policies from both =Ferment and private entities; find out how the information center ners feedback from the clients it serves; determine how the ._:nt=reation center establishes linkages with other development-oriented mastitutions, organizations linkages with other development-oriented mitutions, organizations of agencies both government and private; Datapoint the kind of resources and services individuals or organizations cm avail of from the information center; describe which resources and services are availed of and determine the strengths, weaknesses and pritiems of the Tacloban PIA Information Center with the end in view oforiring the manner by which it carries out its responsibilities.the Philippine Information Agency at Tacloban City functions as a ;r7u7.frczal branch of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in the of Leyte. It is composed of one (1) Information center Manager mom fL:r '4) area coordinators.The area Coordinators oversee the implementation of the center's program and services in a cluster of municipalities. The Community Development Information Officers (CDICe) carry out the implementation of a variety of information campaigns at the municipal level.The Philippine Information Agency at Tacloban City offers the following services and resources: VTR/Film Showings, editorial/communication skills training, Public Information Assistance Service, library services, publications outlet, Kapihan sa PIA, Pulong-pulong, surveys/public opinion polls, reproduction of information materials, Infocen Bulletin, information center venue and VTR/STP equipment.Furthermore, program goals are achieved in coordination with the local media, the conduct of information campaigns, and thru the actual servicing of clients. At the municipal level, these goals are achieved thru bandillos, harangay assemblies, pulong-pulong, coordination with barangay officials, and the setting up of a mini-library in some areas.The Philippine Information Agency at Tacloban City has likewise established linkages with various agencies, both government and private, in the City of Tacloban. The programs of these entities are the very campaigns that the center conducts.Most of these agencies speak highly of the Tacloban PIA information center.Most of the clients who visit the center are male college students who reside within Tacloban City.Clients speak highly of the Tacloban PIA information center, They too think that information centers are important in making people aware of crucial issues and problems.In contrast to the enormous expectations that have been laid upon :he information center, its major problem is the financial or budgetary allotment given by the national government. Although an information center is expected to be a highly mobile entity, its activities are restricted by the lack of funds to maintain its various resources and services.
