Abstract

The paper. trim problem of a certain paper mill was -formulated as a linear programming problem for which the column generation technique by Gilmore and Gomory- a method requiring the solution of Knapsack subproblems- was employed. The method gives better solutions in that trim loss is minimized thereby resulting in savings over the present practice of the company.
