Abstract
Makeham's equation of the survival function, s(x) = nxg(x-3.), was approximated using the method of differential correction and the data from the Commissioners 1958 Standard Ordinary Mortality Table. An implementation of a computer program of this method produced the following: s(x) = .99874024292x 099926849423 (1.0972977331x - 1) A kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test indicated that the derived equation is a good fit to the survival pattern at a level of significance a = 0.01.
