Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the Executive House in UP Los Baños and at Bonifacio Global City, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, Metro Manila. The on-campus practice at the Executive House enabled the student to perform landscape maintenance operations and rehabilitation.

The off-campus practice also focused on landscape maintenance operations, which was performed and observed by the student at the Bonifacio Global City. The landscape implementation and maintenance of Bonifacio Global City was assigned to a landscape contractor, the Bonifacio Trees and Greens Corporation. The contractor pays each worker PhP275.50 per day. With a total of 24 crewmembers employed by the company, the latter incurs labor cost of PhP171,912 per month. The same staff was also involved in the implementation and maintenance of indoor plants in some of the buildings at Global City. Various landscape maintenance practices were performed and observed by the student practitioner. These include, among others, weeding, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, mulching, pest and disease management, replanting, and some supervisions. While undergoing field practice, problems like strong wind, lack of cooperation by workers, drought and unavailability of some tools were encountered. Such problems were attributed to lack of documentation and uncooperativeness of workers. Recommendations and appropriate solutions were suggested.
