Abstract

The study was conducted at the Grounds Unit of the Experiment Station — Controlled Growth Facilities and Grounds of the International Rice Research Center from November 2009 to April 2010. Various skills and theoretical knowledge in performing and observing different landscape maintenance and nursery operations were applied. The landscape maintenance operations observed and performed were inspection, pruning, irrigation, planting, weeding, nutrient management, pest and disease management, mowing, tools and equipment maintenance, waste segregation, indoor decoration, and landscape management. In indoor decoration, 8 dish gardens were made according to the availability of the plants and pots present in the nursery. A simple cost analysis of the landscape installation at the main gate area was done. A total of Php. 87,975.00 was computed for an area of 210 sq. m. The cost for every square meter is Php 418.93.

The nursery operations observed and performed were the following: potting, propagating, and watering. A plant catalogue of the plants raised in the nursery was prepared. Included in the catalogue is the use of the plants, indoor or outdoor decoration, and the light requirement of each indoor plant.

All these landscape maintenance and nursery operations were analyzed based on their theoretical validity. Problems regarding these operations were identified and recommendations were suggested.
