Abstract
A PC-based infrared thermometer was developed and used to measure the surface temperature of the target material. A low-powered infrared sensor, MLX90247, was used to detect the infrared waves emitted by the surface. The whole instrument was calibrated using a digital thermometer. Accuracy and reliability of the instrument was tested by measuring the surface temperature of a hot plate stove at the Physics Laboratory. Data from the designed instrument were compared to data obtained by a digital thermometer. Results showed that the instrument developed was 99% accurate.
