Abstract

The four month major practice was conducted in an approximately 5-hectare farm to give the student a more detailed exposure to the integrated aspects of crop production and management and to give opportunity to apply the principles and practices learned in school through actual farming. It was conducted from October 1977 to February 1978 in San Roque, Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

Crops cultivated in the farm were corn as the main crop with tomato, pechay, calamismis, patola and patani as cash crops. The system of multicropping has benefited the farmer cooperator since income and production per unit area were increased. Tomato gave the highest contribution to the actual farm income.

The major problems identified were lack of irrigation water, delay of financial support for crop production, poor methods of selecting planting materials and planting pechay and tomato. Solutions recommended were: a) use of an improvised drip irrigation system consisting of perforated cans or plastics; b) planting of a more drought resistant crop; c) Formation of Samahang Nayon and; d) improvement of other cultural practices.
