Abstract

A system for measuring the photovoltage of a detector as a response to the temperature of a distant heated object was designed and implemented using an 80386 microcomputer system, an infrared photodiode and an analog to digital converter card. The system was implemented to facilitate an automated process of telethermometry. The analog to digital converter card was calibrated at 1 millivolt resolution and the relationship of ADC output and input voltage is linear with 0.999 coefficient of correlation. Temperature and photovoltage data was gathered and analyzed. For the particular set of data gathered, a logarithmic relation was found. A suitable and versatile program was also developed to facilitate a fast data acquisition system. The program was written under object-oriented programming style.
