Abstract

A high pass Butterworth filter having a voltage follower unity gain amplifier was used to eliminate the low frequency noise from the lines as well as microphonics. Resistors with the lowest tolerance available and a LF 355 JFET input operational amplifier were utilized to render the low noise characteristics which is important in filtering. A brief review of the different type of noise in electronic signals was included Their sources were discussed and possible ways of eliminating or reducing each noises were presented. Proper grounding of the circuit and systems used were employed to eliminate the ground loops. An experimental chamber was constructed in order to eliminate the stray white light. Data were obtained in the testing and evaluation of the constructed noise filter. The results indicated proper attentions of low frequency signal below the cut off frequency. This implied filtering of low frequency noise particularly line frequency pick-up and microphonic related signals.
