Abstract
Acetocarmine squash preparations of anthers of 'guava (P. gaujalava L.) were done to determine its chromosome number and meiotic behavior. Samples were collected from Canlubang and Ste. Rosa. Laguna. The chromosome number was 2n=22. The meiotic states were highly normal in all samples with metaphase I. anaphase I. telophase I. metaphase II. anaphase II and telophase II having normal cell frequencies of 69.7%. 83.94%. 100%. 1000. 92.5% and 100%. respectively. At metaphase I. the most frequent abnormalities were laggards (22.34%). late or non congression (4.47%) and early disjunction (3.49%). Anaphase I exhibited laggards (12.28%) and late disjunction (3.78%). Differential disjunction (5.84%) and asynchronous movement (1.66%) were observed at anaphase II. No aberration was observed a telophase I. metaphase II and telophase II. The pollen fertility of P. guava was 94.16%.
