Abstract
Meiotic cells of male N. virecens sampled from IRB and IR62, were observed. Cell morphology and chromosomal features at different meiotic stages were described. Fifteen chromosomes at diakinesis consisted of 7 bivalent autosomes plus an x-chromosome at 75% Significant differences were observed at interphase, pachytene, telophase and length of spermotozoa. The mean meiotic index for IRB infesting N. virescens was 80% and 83% for IR62 infesting N. virescens. Aberrations such as binucleated cells was observed in N. virescens infesting IR 8. Increasing or decreases in chromosome numbers were also noted on both populations.
