Abstract
A meristematic cells at the root tips of germinated seeds of M pudica were investigated. the onset of mitotic phase division time was 12:00 noon. Mitosis was 100% normal exhibiting all the stages, namely; prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. The average mitotic index was 14%. The average measurement of cells during the different mitotic stages were determined. Aceto-orcein squash technique of cells pre-treated with 0.01% colchicine prior to fixation with Farmer's solution revealed that the chromosome numbers varied from 2n = 28 to 68. The modal chromosome number was 2n = 52. The relative length of the chromosome ranged from 0.27 to 1.00. The chromosome were monocentric. The arm ratio ranged from 1.00 to 3.00. The average centromeric index was 30.78%.
