Abstract

The chromosome number and meiotic behavior of Euphorbia pulcherrima wild, from three sampling sites in UPLB, College, Laguna, namely: Maquiling elementary School, Forestry and Ornamental Crops Nursery were studied. The chromosome number, meiotic behavior as well chromosomal aberrations were found to be similar in all of the three sampling sites. The chromosome number was found to be 2n = 26 and 28. However, the modal number was found to be 2n = 28 (76.92%) In metaphase I, the most frequent abnormalities were laggards ((14.97%); non-congression (25.40%) and early disjunction (15.30%). In metaphase II laggards, non-congression (22.05%) and early disjunction (10.49%) were observed. Anaphase I, on the other hand, exhibited chromosomal irregularities such as laggards (43.24%) and late disjunction (18.37%). Laggards (6.58%) late disjunction (27.67%); bridge (7.48%) and aynchronous separation. (7.59%) were observed in anaphase II. No aberration was observed in telophases I and II
