Abstract

The study was conducted to analyze the agricultural loan performance of fisherfolk-members of Mamamayan para sa Lambat at Dagat Multipurpose Cooperative (MPLD-MPC) in Bacoor Cavite. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the factors that affect the loan repayment performance of the fisherfolk-members of MPLDMPC. Primary and secondary data were gathered for the study.

Thirty fisherfolk-members were interviewed and chosen through the complete enumeration method. Eleven of them were delinquent and the rest were non-delinquent borrowers of the MPLD-MPC during the latest cycle of the year 2018. The statistical analyses that were used are Fisher's Exact Test of Independence, Cramer's V, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Binary Logistic Regression.

The result of the analysis using the Fisher's Exact Test of Independence and Cramer's V showed that among the perception of the fisherfolk-member towards the credit service, loan collection and loan penalty were significant at 90% level of confidence and have relatively strong association with the loan delinquency. Using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, the multicollinearity was seen existing between household size and loan utilization, number of times loaned and loan utilization, years of membership in MPLD-MPC and amount loaned, and number of times loaned and years of membership in MPLD-MPC. Binary Logistic Regression was used to analyze the chosen independent variables and the result was that educational attainment and net farm income have a significant relationship with the delinquency of the fisherfolk-members. The reasons and problems faced by the delinquent borrowers are loss of profit, family problems, and forgetfulness of their dues.

It is recommended to have seminars and bi-weekly meetings of the members to bridge the gap regarding the educational attainment, have a central market to increase the net farm income of the members, be strict with the interview before letting them join the cooperative, and lastly, change the terms and conditions regarding the loan penalty.
