Abstract

Spectrophotometric studies were made on Oryza punctata, five varieties of 0. sativa and their F1 hybrids. O. punctata exhibited the highest specific peroxidase activity. Specific activity of the F1 hybrids were observed to be higher than their respective cultivated parents. A total of 21 protein bands, were observed in O. punctata and 5 varieties of O. sativa, while 22 protein bands were observed among the F1 hybrids. O. punctata exhibited more protein bands compared to the cultivated varieties. Hybrid bands were observed among the F1 hybrids. A total of 7 peroxidase bands were observed between O. punctata and 5 varieties of O. sativa, while 8 peroxidase bands were detected among the F1 hybrids. A hybrid peroxidase band was observed inthe F1 hybrid, UPLRi-2 -x- O. punctata. Most parental bands were present in the F1 hybrids.
