Abstract

Egg cells of L. pseudoannulata fixes in Carnoy's fluid and stained with lactoacetoorcein reveled the following cellular and chromosomal features: mitotic index, 22.49%; neceloplasmic index, 38, 48%; interphase cells with round and oval nuclei; normal and regular mitotic stages except for occurrence of clumping of some-metaphase and chromosomes and laggards at anaphase. Cell counts of mitotic cells revealed prophase to be the most frequently occurring stage and anaphase being the least. Karyogram pre-metaphase chromosomes revealed the locations of centromere at the median and submedian regions. Other centromeres were not distinct. Chromosome number was 2n=26 (12 IIA + x1x2). the relative length of chromosome ranged from 0.051 to 0.086 and the sex chromosomes were x1 = 0.123 and x2 =0.043.
