Abstract
Cytogenetic analysis of Helicoverpa armigera Hub. using lactoacetoorcien squash technique of testes at prepupa revealed distinct qualitative karyomorphological features . The haploid number as well as the chromosome number of the spermatocytes of Helicoverpa armigera Hub. was n=31 . Helicoverpa armigera Hub. was also found to be homogametic , 2n=62 ( 3011 + ZZ ) . Meiotic index ranged from 95-100% . The chromosomes were holocentric and chromosome length ranged from 0.010 to 0.023 . Meiosis in Helicoverpa armigera Hub. was generally normal with few cell counts exhibiting early disjunction at prophase I and asynchronous behavior at prophase II , metaphase II and anaphase II. and quantitative cytological and anaphase II
