Abstract

A total of 15 28-day old weanlings were used in the experiment to determine the comparative efficacy of comparative efficacy of DL-Methionine Hydroxy Analog (MHA-FA) and DL-Methionine (DLM) as Methionine source. The experiment made use of three dietary treatments, namely: 1. Basal Diet (Control), 2. Control + 0.0684% MHA-FA and 3. Control + 0.060% DLM; the MHA-FA was supplemented in an equimolar basis to the DLM and the basal diet used is deficient in methionine while sufficient in every other nutrient. The parameters of the study to compare the effectiveness of the two methionine sources were: initial weight, final weight, weight gain, average daily gain (ADG), total feed intake, average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio (FCR); economic analysis was also done by computing the Feed Cost Efficiency (FCE) of the diets. Data revealed that there was no significant difference between the two methionine sources with respect to the parameters of the study (ρ > 0.05). Economic Analysis revealed that there was a slight difference in the FCE of the diets and MHA-FA is more economical to use than DLM.
