Abstract
A study was undertaken using twelve 3i—month old male mice ( Mus musculus BALB/C) to determine the effects of varying concentrations of Lagundi ( Vitex negundo L.) leaf extract on the internal organs of white mice using gross morphological and histological parameters. Three treatment groups were evaluated, namely: distilled water, 10% lagundi leaf extract and 20% lagundi leaf extract in distilled water, over a period of four weeks. The lagundi leaf extract treatments did not cause any significant effect on the weights (expressed in mg/gm body weight) of the internal organs (liver, kidneys, spleen, testis, small and large intestine, heart, adrenal gland and pituitary gland) studied. It was observed that 0.25 ml of 10% lagundi leaf extract given daily for four weeks through the gavage method does not cause any abnormality in the internal organs of white mice. However, significant effects such as karyorhexis,
