Abstract

NonaBokra a resistant variety to Green leafhopper (Nephottetix virescens) was crossed to IR28 a susceptible variety to GLH Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) was used to detect genetic differences betweem the two varieties . More than one hundred probes out of 238 probes , combined with five enzymes Dral, EcoRV, Hind III, Scal, and Xba I) showed polymorphism indicating their diversity in their genome accounted for the different traits like the susceptibility and resistance to GLH. To determine the inheritance of resistance to Green leafhopper, one hundred and fifty four, three weeks old , randomly chosen plants from the F8 generation of IR28 and NonaBokra produced by Rapid Generation Advance method, were incubated with Green leafhopper. The results showed that the resistance to GLH is controlled by one dominant gene pair, since it follows the 3:1 ratio.
