Abstract

Lacto-aceto-orcein squash preparation of spermatogenic tissues of L luzonicus was investigated. The different stages of meiosis were identified and described quantitatively and qualitatively. Meiotic index was 54% while the nucleoplasmic index was 1.34. First meiotic division was reductional while the second meiotic division was equational. Idiogram of pachytene chromosomes and karyogram of diakinesis chromosomes revealed a diploid (2N) number of 25 consisting of 12 bivalent autosomes and XO sex-determining mechanism. The autosomes were monocentric and of the H-type cross and closed-ring bivalent association while the sex chromosome was telocentric. Chromosomal clumps were observed at Metaphase I and II, Telophase I and II. Laggards were observed at Anaphase I and II. Quadripartioning occured at the end of the second meiotic division resulting to four haploid daughter cells.
