Abstract
ABSTRACT FABUL, GENALIN FARIRAS. 1993. University of the Philippines at Los Banos. Meiosis in Golden shower, Cassia fistula L. (Fabales : Leguminosae). Adviser : Merlyn S. Mendioro Chromosome number, meiotic behavior and pollen fertility of Cassia fistula L. were studied using the acetocarmine squash technique. The chromosome number was found to be 2n=24 (84.88%). Abnormalities observed were reduced chromosome numb e: at diakinesis (2n=20): laggards (15.12%) and non-congression (9.56%) at metaphase I; and laggards at anaphase I (9.42%) and metaphase II (1.19%). Anaphase II, telophase I and telophase II were 100% normal. A high pollen fertility (89.38%) was observed due to to the relatively normal meiotic behavior of the cells in the different stages of meiosis.
