Abstract
ABSTRACT Stella Esther B. Gamboa, University of Philippines at Los Banos, May, 1987. A Kciryomorp logical Analysis of Saccharum robustum Brandes and Jcsswiet ex Grassl. Adviser: Dr. Liwayway M. Engle The chromosome number and morphology of Saccharum robustum were studied. Root tips were used as the source of the chromosomes. Well spread meta-phase cells were used for Karyotypic analysis. The chromosomes were classified based on their centromeric position, .ingested by Levan et -11 (1964). The investigation conducted revealed that the diploid chromosome number of S robustum was 60. The mean relative length ranged from 0.010 to 0.015. Of the five_ cell:, studied, four cells were found to have a diploid chromosome complement of 29 pairs with median centromere and 1 pair of submedian centromere only. The chromosomes of the other cell, however, were all classified as metacentric.
