Abstract

ABSTRACT GARCIA, JOSELITO JOJI P., University of the Philippines at Los Banos, March 1989. Isohemoglobia and esterase. Banding pattern al Milkfish [Chanos cbanos (Forskal)] Raised in a Brackishwater Pond In Barrio Jugan. Cebu.

Major Adviser: Mr. Ivan Marcelo A. Duka Isohemoglobin and esterase banding patterns of milkfish (Chafes chafes (Forskal)), through polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis revealed seventy two isohemoglobin bands ranging from six to twelve bands. A fast moving anodal hand, with an Rf value of 0.915 was designated as hand :lumber one. A slow moving cathodal band with an average Rf value of 0.12 was designated as band number seventy two. Two major bands were cathodal. Anodal bands which were present were considered as minor hands. The four organs examined exhibited three esterase zones. Zone 1 (fast anodal) and Zone 3 (cathodal) were made up of minor bands. Zone 2 (slow anodal) was made up of major bands, the number varying from organ to organ. The liver had one major band, the eyes had two major hands, epaxial muscle had two to five major hands, and cardiac muscle had one to five major bands. Zone 3 was observed only in cardiac muscle.
