Abstract

C-metaphase of brain cells of Apis cerana F. drones from Los Banos and Majayjay, were prepared using modified procedures by Imai and Kubota (1972). Somatic chromosome number (n=16) obtained. confirmed previous studies on the said species. Average relative length of chromosomes from samples obtained in Los Baños ranged from 1.00-0.38 while their average arm ratio ranged from 3.46-1.18. Chromosome classification observed included metacentric, submetacentric and subtelocentric. Average relative length of chromosomes from samples obtained in Majayjay ranged from 1.00-0.35 while their average arm ratio ranged from 2.82-1.08. Chromosome classification observed included metacentric and submetacentric. No significant differences were obtained among chromosomes of A. cerena F. from both localities except for chromosome B. Such difference may be attributed to cytological techniques, difference of rearing days upon collection and physiological factors.
