Abstract
Sporocytes of Averrhoa carambola L. were studied to know its chromosome number and meiotic behavior behavior by using acetocarmine squash preparations. A. carambola has a chromosome number of 3n=24. At diakinesis 12II (74.24%), 11II (10.58%) and 10II + 41 (15.18%) were observed. The meiotic stages observed have normal cell frequencies during metaphase 1 (15.00%), anaphase 1 (62.26%), telophase 1 (82.62%), metaphase II (71.69%), anaphase II (58.80%) and telophase II (81.18%). At metaphase II (81.18%). At metaphase I, the most frequent abnormalities were laggards (21.40%). non-congression (16.26%) and early disjunction (8.34%). Anaphase I exhibited laggards (21.10%) and non congression (16.63%). Telophase I exhibited laggards (17.38%) Metaphase II exhibited non-congression of chromosome (28.31%). At anaphase II laggards (36.51%) and non-congression and non-congression (4.67%) were observed. Telophase II wxhibited only laggards (18.82%). Its pollen fertility was 60.21%
