Abstract

ABSTRACT IMPERIAL, ANTHONY V. University of the Philippines at Los Banos. April, 1984. Preliminary Study on the Effect of Urea on Liver Mitochondrial Succinate Dehydrogenase Activity in Guinea Pig (Cavia , s) Adviser: Dr. William G. Padolina Male and female Guinea pigs were treated with different concentrations of urea for both in vitro (1/2 LD50, LD50, 2LD50) and in vivo (1/2 LD50) test. In the in vitro test, there was a significant degree of inhibition effected by urea on the activity of the Guinea pig's liver mitochondrial succinate dehydrogenase. There was no direct proportionality in the concentration of urea from 1/2 LD50 to 2LD50 in its degree of inhibition. In the in vivo test, no significant effect of urea was observed.
