Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at Nestle Philippines Incorporated in Niugan, Cabuyao, Laguna from April 2012 to May 2012 for a total of 150 hours. The company produces different dairy products such as milk infant formula, chocolate drink and powdered and concentrated fruit juices. The trainee was assigned in Packaging Materials and Sensory Evaluation laboratory. In the packaging laboratory, the trainee learned different techniques for analysis of food packaging like sniff test, can seam analysis, dimension analysis, type of flute of corrugated boards and bar code print verification. In the sensory evaluation laboratory, the trainee experienced sample preparation for daily sessions, prepared basic taste seminar for new set of panelist and inventory of sample standards and company’s product displays. There are no flaws encountered in the plant aside from the minor problem in Tampered Evident Plastic Caps (TEPCs). Plant practice enhanced the skills of the student and gave her exposure in the actual operations in the food industry. The trainee learned to deal with different people in the industry and gained competence towards her future work as food technologist.
