Abstract

A study was conducted to determine variation in esterase glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, acid and alkaline phosphatase banding patterns of tilapia collected from Freshwater Fisheries Research Station-DA, Bambang, Los Banos, Laguna and Tunasan, Muntinlupa, Metro Manila. Homogenates from the liver, heart and eyes were used in starch gel electrophoresis. electrophoresis was done on a 12% starch gel using a MUPID-2 electrophoresis Apparatus. Results showed variable effects of the water quality on the polymorphisms of the same enzymes which are orga dependent except for acid phosphatase whose number of isozymes present is directly affected by the environment. Enzymes polymorphism was found to be variable between organs within an individual and between individuals of the two sampling sites.
