Abstract
The flower longevity and anthesis period of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora forms flavicarpa Degener) flowers were determined. In addition, the percentage flower and fruit sets in natural filed conditions were estimated. A total of 300buds were tagged and observed for 44 days. The results showed that the flower longevity of P. edulis f. flavicarpe varied from 3 to 12 days, with a mean of five days opened at around 11:30 to 12:00 nn and closed at around 6:00 pm with the entire anthesis period at six hours. Only 20 flowers developed from the 300 buds tagged. The percentage flower set was estimated at 7 percent. Out of the 20flowers, only 6 developed into fruits. The percentage fruit set estimated at 30 percent. The low percentages of both flower and fruit sets were attributed to the self-incompatibility of the flower, rainy weather conditions and inadequate pollination.
