The total muscle protein of the"freshwater prawn", Macrobrachium lanceifrons (Dana) collected from three sites in the northern portion of Laguna de Bay: Siniloan, Laguna (SNL); Jala-jala, Rizal (JAR) and; Tanay, Rizal (TYR) were investigated through Sodium-Dodecyl Sulfate-Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). A total of 23 protein bands were visualized in the Siniloan and Tanay sites and 22 protein bands in the Jala-jala area. Variations in terms of band intensities and absence of bands were observed in the samples. Possible protein band markers in the three sites were also identified. The protein banding patterns were also summarized. There were 16 different banding patterns identified in both the Siniloan and Tanay samples while 13 different band patterns were found in the Jala-jala samples. A high similarity index (SI) ranging from 87.97% to 90.57% was observed within samples from the three collection sites. It was also noted that there is a high SI among the samples. There is a relatively high SI between the samples from SNL and JAR (90.18%) than the SI between SNL and TYR (85.16%) as well as that of JAR and TYR (85.16%). This was correlated to the tongue-like land mass jutting out of the northern portions of the Laguna de Bay which could well assume a physical barrier in the exchange of genetic materials among the freshwater prawns.
