Meiotic and mitotic chromosome numbers, morphology, and behavior were investigated in Vanda lamellata Lindl. var. Calayana. Acetocarmine squash preparations of anthem from 1' lamellata Lindl. var. Calayana flower buds fixed in Farmer's solution revealed normal chromosome behavior at meiosis. Only 0.22% of the meiocytes showed abnormalities like bridge and laggards. The haploid chromosome number of n-19 was observed in all cells at Diakinesis which showed normal configuration of nineteen bivalents. Meristematic cells observed from the root tips of V lamellata lindl. var. Calayana exhibited normal mitotic activity. The average mitotic index (M1) was 75.5%. Karyotypes of ten cells at premetaphase established a diploid chromosome number of 2n=38. The average actual lengths of chromosomes ranged from 1.92 to 3.86 um, while average relative lengths ranged from 0.036 to 0.072. Pollen fertility was 97.07%
