The accessions of Azolla pinnata from Thailand. Philippines and Indonesia were studied using a modified acetocarmine squash method. The somatic chromosome number was determined at c-metaphase and diakinesis in Azolla pinnata accession 0005 from Thailand. Results showed variation in chromosome number ranging from 2n=18 to 2n=46 at diakinesis and 2n=13 to 2n=49 at c-metaphase. In A. pinnata accession 0046 from the Philippines. chromosome numbers at metaphase vary from 2n=15 to 2n=56. In A. pinnata accession 0077 from Indonesia, chromosome numbers at c-metaphase ranged from 2n=15 to 2n=35. Chromosomes in A. pinnata were noted to be extremely small and poorly spread thus analysis was very difficult.
