Abstract
Nine varieties of Vigna radiate (L.) Wilczek and V. mungo. (L.) Hepper were examined for preinfectional and post-iffectional production of phenols using thin layer chromatography. Pre-infectional y, suscepible and resistant varieties had only one phenol (except MD-15) whereas immune varieties had two. Post-infectionally ML3 and ML-6 (resistant varieties) each synthesized two new phenols. These phenols are detected as early as five days after inoculation.
