Abstract

Acetocarmine squash technique of the root tip cells of J. curcas L. were used in the analysis pretreated with .002% Colchicine to reveal the premetaphase of chromosomes ideal for karyotyping. Somatic cells of the plant were found to have a chromosome number of 2n=22. The longest chromosome has an average relative length of .070 and the shortest chromosome has an average relative length of 039. Unfortunately, centromeric index and arm ratio were not measured clue to the very small size and maximal contraction of the chromosomes. The mitotic index of the plant was 12.22%. Normal mitosis in all cells were observed.
