Abstract

Genetic diversity of twenty (20) pollen parent (P) lines was determined using 37 microsatellite markers. For the genetic diversity analysis, a total of 348 alleles from all lines analyzed were identified. The average number of alleles per locus was 9.41 alleles. The sizes of alleles observed ranged from less than 100bp (RM13.2. RM295, RM307, RM312, RIv1331. and RM338) to 950 by (RM282). About 97.30% of the loci were polymorphic while the remaining 2.70% were monomorphic. The average Polymorphism Information Content (PIC) value was 0.761. -Twenty-four (64.86%) loci were found to be informative in assessing polymorphism while thirteen (35.14%) loci were found to be not informative. High genetic identity (0.6822) was observed between SN698 and SN713. On the other hand. low genetic identity (0.1957) was observed between SN742 and SN8I3. Cluster analysis identified Ilse clusters and three singletons using 0.59 similarity coefficient. The clustering pattern produced was based on Jaccard's similarity using NTSYS Version 2.1.
